  1. Linguistic division of the south didn’t usher in a coherent sub-nationalist identity in Karnataka, unlike their Southern neighbours.
  2. K’taka has tried incredibly hard, sometimes through state overreach, to ‘control and promote’ culture.
  3. Regional chauvinism in any multi-cultural city is a sad sight — because they shouldn’t be the centres lending the state their legitimacy. Mumbai, Bengaluru, New York or London don’t represent the states/countries they reside in. Cities like Pune and Mysuru are much more representative of that.
  4. Ensuring the primacy of regional languages in their respective states only adds to the strength of the Republic.
