I think you are rather missing the point — Ahir valour isn’t in question. It is a given. Why does an Ahir Regiment have to be created to adequately recognise this valour? That is the question. As I pointed out, many regiments (infantry, armoured, artillery) have fixed class compositions of Ahir troops at the company/battery level.
As for traditions — the trend since Independence (since all Indians are so quick to repudiate Indian contributions to the two world wars and other campaigns in the subcontinent) has been to create caste and region agnostic regiments. If anything, then, the creation of an Ahir regiment would go against this ‘tradition’.
