Germany, and the Germans, have every right to defend “their way of life”. Their walk of shame/guilt from WW-II has surely ended by now. Yes, Merkel was also clearly motivated by an ageing population to accept refugees, but the pace of change is simply too fast for the Germans to adjust to this influx.

One little Lebanese cafe or meat shop qualifies as quaint and a novelty but if the map of the entire street changes in a few years, it is a change too fast.

One only needs to look at the furore that “English only” speaking waiters cause in many upmarket Berlin areas – it isn’t just ire targeted at one community, it is just directed at a pace of change in general that is too fast for the people to accept.

The lack of nuance in any right leaning argument doesn’t help, but it doesn’t negate everything that they spew out!
